Option Theta θ : a first attempt
Issued on December 02 2011 par Strategies Options

Theta measures the sensitivity of the value of an option to the passage of time.
It's easy to grasp that the more the maturity, the higher the option value. Time has a cost, for every cash account the same way as for every derivatives, like options.

I - Definition

As far as time is passing, time cost vanishes. It's called time decay.

II - Simple Expression

Theta = [ portfolio value(tomorrow) ] - [ portfolio value(today) ]
